Focuses on the domestic life, housing and nitty gritty of contemporary Cairo including criticism of the sattelite cities, ring road and other prestige projects. Well written and entertaining to read.

���Cairo the victorious��� Max Rodenbeck ( London 1998)
History of Cairo includes many interesting and insightfull anecdotes, follows events up to 1999.

���The Rough Guide to Egypt��� (sixth edition) november 2006
Readable and reliable, good history section. I personally prefer the Rough guidde above the ���Lonely Planet��� on Egypt because it is thorough and a more modest tone.
